Theatrical costume

“I love costume history and in particular historical pattern making techniques”.

Thanks to the course of Professional Qualification offered by the “Atelier Carnet” in Pisa in 2001, my passion for theatrical costume history and historical pattern making techniques has had a chance to grow and evolve, giving me the possibility to work in this magical field and constantly contaminating my whole creative world.

In 2004 I have taken part as patterncutter into both the operas “Il Re Bello” (libretto by Sirio Ferrone, original music and direction by Roberto De Simone and costume consultancy by Odette Nicoletti) and “Butterfly” by Giacomo Puccini (sketches by Gulliermo Mariotto, creative director of the Maison Gattinoni).

In 2010 then, I have had the chance to show two of my creations - fusion between two parallel worlds: Fashion and Theatre - on the occasion of Joy Sposi first two editions openings at the Stazione Leopolda, Florence:

- in February, the “Abito tutto da leggere”, a majestic nuptial creation entirely made up of over 150 copies of the Italian newspaper “La Nazione”.

- in October, the “Abito da sposa nero”, a black bridal dress as an homage to Queen Elisabeth I, a modernly revisited historical reconstruction of the “Virgin Queen”'s costume, whose royal dresses were inevitably in light colors being her unmarried.

Ever since, constantly and overwhelmingly, theater and costume history contaminates my whole way to think of and live fashion.
